| Nestled deep in the hills of Eastern Ohio, craftsmen Kevin
Malone and Adrian Tharp meticulously follow the traditional
art of Windsor chair building. The spacious surroundings of
80 acres seem to be the ideal setting in which to pursue this
250 year old craft. The land envelopes a small, rustic cottage
and newly built pole-barn which serves as their work place.
As you might guess, this work shop lies at the end of Raven
Road.
Both Kevin and Adrian have been involved with woodworking
and carpentry for 25 years. Kevin comes from a line of woodworkers,
having grown up in the family's cabinet shop in Alliance,
Ohio. Kevin's admiration for the Windsor style began in early
boyhood, when he noticed how sturdy one of their family heirlooms
had been maintained for 5 generations - a Windsor chair from
his great grandfather who fought in the revolutionary war
alongside George Washington.
In their adult lives, Kevin and Adrian began spending time
learning the Windsor craft and mastering it further than they
had ever expected. They found that other craftsmen "compromise"
tradition. In fact, Kevin and Adrian's process
is so involved, that each project becomes a "one of a
kind" piece of furniture that is personal to them and
the people they build them for.
Even though Raven's End has built many chairs, book cases,
and countless other custom-designed furniture, they emphasize
that their favorite part is actually the delivery. For them,
the pride they feel with contacting each customer personally
and giving them a quality product that will last a lifetime
makes every second worthwhile.
